At this point of the speech Alcibiades stops: a need to make a clarification. Is going to say things that ... without wine is certainly not going to say. The wine - you know - it is always true (Oinos alethes). And so this wonderful action made by Socrates (Sokratous Ergon hyperéphanon), although closely affects some aspects of their private relationship, just does not go unmentioned. If you need to do the eulogy of Socrates, a fortiori it is not fair to keep it hidden.
Alcibiades also makes an interesting observation. In this moment - he says - I feel like someone has been bitten by a viper (dechthéntos hypo tou écheos), which - Com? Is known - does not like to talk about what he tried except by those who have had the same experience. Who knew the pain of (hypo tes odýnes) bite of the viper goes so far as to say and do all sorts of things (pan etólma dran you legein kai), also incredibly amazing things, and only those who lived very painful experience can understand and forgive his odd behavior. Yes - Alcibiades goes on - it happened to me: I was bitten at the point where the bite is more pain, no, not in body, but in the heart and soul (ten Kardiani is psychen): hit and bite (you plageís kai dechtheís) by speeches of Socrates, by his speeches on philosophy (hypo ton en philosophia logon); speeches, easily the most brutal of the viper (echídnes agrióteron), taking the souls of young people with (néou aphyoûs lábontai psyches me), and are do and say anything.
I say strange things. E 'philosophy that makes strange effects. And many present here who know something: Phaedrus, Agathon Erissimaco, Pausanias, Aristophanes and Aristodemo. And so Socrates. All of you are united (Pantes kekoinonékate) from the madness and fury of the philosopher (TES philosóphou Manias you bakcheías kai). But everyone can understand and forgive the things that I did and now I'm about to tell.
